A  series of conversations with Harvard’s Michael D. Smith, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and John H. Finley, Jr. Professor of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Xiao-Li Meng, Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and Whipple V. N. Jones Professor of Statistics, and Mark C. Elliott, Director of the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies and Mark Schwartz Professor of Chinese and Inner Asia History was held on January 17, 2014.

The event was hosted by the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Harvard Club of Beijing, Harvard Club of Hong Kong, Harvard Club of Shanghai, Harvard Center Shanghai, Harvard Alumni Association, and Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies.

Dean Smith outlined current priorities for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, describing the innovations in teaching and learning that will help to reshape undergraduate and graduate education in the 21st century. Dean Meng and Professor Elliott engaged in a dialogue, partially in Mandarin, about Harvard’s interests, activities, and scholarship in China.
